I know, I know, I’ve got to back that title up with some facts. Well, let’s get all the cards on the table straight away so I can get on with explaining how we did it.
This is a screen shot from our google analytics from January 2019 to July 2019.
Ok, but how did that translate to money!?
Well, here is a screen shot from our Adsense analytics during the same period.
Yes, that income in July was £4000!
It has been an incredible journey, I can hardly believe it myself. But when I think about all the work we put into it, it all makes sense.
This blog actually started in April 2018 on a whim. I had just had hernia surgery and needed something to keep me occupied. I dove down the rabbit hole of the blogging world and found myself setting up a website and writing.
It kind of tailed off pretty quickly as I got back into work. By the time it got to Christmas of 2018 I’d pretty much forgotten about it.
Needless to say, when I had a look at the analytics it was tumbleweed!
I vowed to have another go in the new year and was really determined to make a go of it.
That was when the Blog Simple Framework course came into my life! I had decided to look for a blogging course and the usual suspects came up. But something stood out for me with the Blog Simple Framework.
Paul Scrivens (Scrivs) wrote in a style that resonated with me and I had a feeling his course was going to be worthwhile (my feelings tend to be right!).
I bought in and, well, excuse the cliche but the rest was history!
Ok, so that’s not where I’m going to leave it. I’m going to give you a run down of how I actually made those amazing leaps in income.
I always knew Pinterest was going to be the way into earning an income from blogging and that is exactly what I wanted to do. I was working in a labour intensive job and my body was not enjoying it so I had to create a way out.
Pinterest is a fantastic tool to get your content in front of people straight away. Rather than having to build up your ranking on google or followers on facebook and instagram, Pinterest shows your content widely. If the content is good and people start visiting your site and saving the pins then you get shown to more people.
That is the basic premise of marketing on Pinterest.
Of course, there is a lot more behind the scenes. The best Pinterest course I have come across is on Scriv’s Blog Simple Framework. It holds your hand through the whole process of marketing on Pinterest.
I cannot emphasize enough the value of this course. It is a quick starter for setting up, marketing and making money on a blog. It was exactly what I needed to generate an income fast and boy, did it work!
If you are looking to create a ‘passion business’ and nurture a loyal following with groundbreaking content and really valuable products then I suggest checking out the Dare To Conquer course ($1 gives you access to the first three course modules, which I think is a no-brainer!). This is also by Paul Scrivens and takes online businesses to a whole other level!
For those who are after as close to a silver bullet for making money blogging, go for the Blog Simple Framework. If you follow the course to the letter you will make your money back and then some within a few months!
JamesandCatrin.com started off as a blog that followed the Blog Simple Framework and is now moving into the Dare To Conquer realm as we concentrate more on building a home decor tribe!
If you want to join us on this journey, please do sign up to our newsletter which goes out weekly and contains some really great content of its own. We feature great Ikea hacks, accessories of the week, amazing DIY tutorials and fun things we come across during the week. That’s all just in the newsletter!
Anyway, I’ve managed to digress massively!
Let’s get stuck into the simple process of growing a blog to £4k a month!
Step 1: Choose a niche that is pretty popular on Pinterest
For jamesandcatrin.com, this was home decor, which is massive on Pinterest! We happened upon the popularity of Ikea hacks, and seeing as we love doing them anyway, it was a perfect fit!
Step 2: Set up your website and set up a Pinterest business account
You want a simple, clean website without anything that will slow it down. Blog Simple Framework takes you through this in an easy to follow way. The key here is to not spend too long on the site design.
When setting up your Pinterest account, make use of the Pinterest search to find keywords and popular topics for your boards.
Step 3: Create great content that gives people what they really want.
Look at what is already popular on Pinterest and create your own, better version!
Step 4: Market your content with great pins
Pinterest is very visual and so you need to stand out from the crowd to make yourself known. Your pins will be shown to people straight away, but you still have a lot of work to do to make sure they click through to your content.
Step 5: Monetize your site
Keep regularly putting out great content and great pins. You will start to see growth really quickly. When you get to a good level of traffic, get some adverts on your site, add in some affiliate marketing and watch the earnings come in (this is such an exciting part!).
That is it. It is almost as simple as these 5 steps, but there is a lot of detail in amongst each part. That’s where the Blog Simple Framework really helped me out. With the guidance in this course I was able to go from zero to £4000 in a month in super fast time!
You just have to be ready to put the initial work in (I’m not going to sugar coat it, you still have to do the work!), but it gets easier as you progress and it’s such a fun process. We’ve loved every moment, even the hard ones, and have learnt so much.
There are so many skills we have learnt that will be essential for everything we do going forward.
We are excited about what the future has in store for us because we have so many exciting plans and the great thing is that we are able to design exactly how that future looks!
Hopefully you’ve found some inspiration here if you are thinking of getting into blogging, content marketing, an online business, however you want to describe it!
